Tour Description For more than three decades, Spirit Airlines was impossible to ignore. Its bright yellow Airbus jets became synonymous with the American ultra-low-cost model: cheap base fares, à-la-carte fees, dense cabins, irreverent advertising, and an airline people seemed equally passionate about loving and hating.

Then, on May 2, 2026, the flying stopped.

Spirit announced an immediate wind-down after years of financial trouble, two Chapter 11 proceedings, unsuccessful restructuring efforts, and a final deterioration in its financial position amid sharply higher fuel costs. Thousands of employees suddenly faced the end of their careers at the airline, while more than 90 airplanes were left scattered around the United States.

But an airline shutting down doesn't make its airplanes disappear.

Many belonged to leasing companies.

Those companies wanted them back.

That is where Nomadic Aviation Group entered the story.

Before the shutdown was even official, Nomadic co-founders Bob Allen and Steve Giordano received the call: prepare to recover the aircraft. Allen later described having only six hours to find 20 pilots. Nomadic created a WhatsApp group that quickly grew to roughly 40 pilots, most of them current or former Spirit pilots. Some were recruited while Spirit aircraft were still flying revenue service and before the shutdown had officially been announced. One pilot had literally just landed when contacted and asked whether he could do the repo flight in shorts.

By the following morning, Spirit was gone.

Some of those same pilots were suddenly being paid by someone else to collect the airplanes they had once flown for Spirit.

This tour tells that real story.

You'll follow the final days of Spirit, collect stranded Airbus jets from airports around the country, deal with the strange logistics of repossessing commercial airliners, and ferry the yellow aircraft west.

There are no passengers anymore.

No flight attendants.

No boarding music.

No "Spirit Wings" callsign.

Just a handful of pilots sitting inside an empty Airbus that, only days earlier, carried paying passengers.

And eventually every road leads toward the same haunting sight:

rows of yellow tails sitting silently beneath the Arizona desert sun.

The tour is inspired in part by Nomadic's documentary of the operation, and contemporary reporting about the repossession.
