LEG 4 — THE REPO MEN (KCMH → KIAH) Columbus → Houston Mission: Position a Nomadic crew to another stranded Spirit aircraft while learning what repossessing an airliner actually involves.

📖 You Can't Just Take an Airbus "Aircraft repossession" sounds dramatic.

It creates images of someone sneaking onto an airport ramp, starting an airplane and disappearing before anyone notices.

Reality is almost the opposite.

Airports generally become suspicious when strangers announce that they've come to take a 200-seat Airbus belonging to an airline that just collapsed.

Paperwork must establish who owns the airplane and who has authority to move it.

Airport officials need documentation.

Maintenance records matter.

A licensed mechanic must inspect the aircraft and its records. Regulatory approvals must be addressed. Fuel must be purchased. Ground handlers must tow or push the aircraft. Flight plans must be filed. Crews need transportation and hotels.

Nomadic essentially has to become a miniature airline overnight.

Making matters worse, some vendors are nervous.

Spirit just collapsed.

Who's paying the fuel bill?

Who's paying for the pushback?

Some service providers demand payment upfront.

The repo isn't somebody stealing an airplane.

It's lawyers, pilots, mechanics, regulators, dispatchers and airport managers trying to establish that someone is legally allowed to take it.

Eventually the paperwork clears.

The cockpit lights illuminate.

Another yellow Airbus wakes up.
