LEG 5 — THE EMPTY CABIN (KIAH → KGYR) Houston → Phoenix Goodyear Mission: Conduct your first full repossession flight, ferrying a former Spirit Airbus west into desert storage.

📖 No Passengers The door closes.

Something feels wrong.

Silence.

No flight attendants preparing doors.

No passengers fighting over overhead bins.

No babies crying.

No one asking for water.

You look behind you.

Rows and rows of empty seats.

The aircraft hasn't changed.

Its purpose has.

Nomadic's crews described how strange these flights felt. Former Spirit pilots had to remind themselves not to use the familiar "Spirit Wings" callsign.

Today, the airplane flies for Nomadic.

One pilot later described the realization that after landing and shutting down, it might be the final time a Spirit pilot ever touched that aircraft's controls.

Arizona appears ahead.

Phoenix Goodyear Airport has become one of the destinations for the former fleet.

NPR documented Nomadic Flight 189 flying specifically from Fort Lauderdale to Goodyear with only a skeleton crew aboard.

You touch down.

Taxi instructions take you away from passenger terminals.

Then you see them.

Yellow tails.

One.

Another.

Another.

You park beside them.

Engines shut down.

The displays go black.

Nobody boards for the return flight.
