Leg 10 — SBNT → GOSS Mission Complete one of the most difficult flights of the expedition by crossing the South Atlantic Ocean into Africa.

📖 The Ocean Dawn breaks over Natal as the Electra begins its takeoff roll. Within minutes Brazil disappears behind them. Ahead... nothing. Only Atlantic Ocean. Hour after hour passes beneath identical blue water. Cloud shadows drift lazily below. The engines maintain a steady rhythm. Fred continuously updates headings, correcting for wind drift invisible to everyone except an experienced navigator. Occasionally Amelia glances toward the fuel gauges. They appear healthy. Still... every pilot knows gauges measure possibility rather than certainty. Halfway across, towering cumulus clouds force deviations. Rain rattles against the windshield. Visibility briefly disappears. Fred calmly recalculates. Amelia trusts him completely. Late that afternoon, a faint brown line appears on the eastern horizon. Africa. Neither says a word. They simply smile. After nearly two thousand miles over open ocean, the African coastline grows larger with every passing minute until Saint-Louis finally emerges beside the Senegal River. When the wheels touch African soil, applause erupts from everyone waiting below. Newspapers later call it one of the greatest flights of the entire expedition. Amelia says very little.
