Leg 2 — PAMC → PANI McGrath → Aniak Mission: Carry mail and fresh groceries west toward Aniak while picking up passengers traveling between regional communities.

"Bananas made it."

Apparently that's good news.

Fresh produce has a very different relationship with time in rural Alaska. Weather delays don't simply mean an inconvenient late delivery. A delayed cargo flight can mean fresh food doesn't arrive when expected.

Today you're carrying milk, eggs, produce and several boxes of mail.

There's also a washing-machine part.

That box might be the most important thing onboard to exactly one family.

That's something bush pilots quickly learn.

You never really know which package matters most.

The tiny box may contain medication.

The oversized box may contain a part necessary to repair someone's snowmachine.

The envelope buried beneath everything else may be something a resident has been waiting weeks to receive.

When Aniak appears ahead, vehicles begin gathering near the airport.

People know the airplane is coming.

And when the propeller finally stops turning, your cargo begins disappearing into the community.

Tomorrow, many of those boxes will be sitting on kitchen tables.
