In 2019, our company embarked on an unforgettable trip to the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza, Italy. The original plan was straightforward: depart from Oslo on Friday, make a short stop in Copenhagen, and continue to Milan—all in one day. However, a strike in Copenhagen threw a serious wrench into our schedule.

While the first leg from Oslo to Copenhagen went smoothly, we quickly learned that continuing to Milan that same day would be impossible. With flights grounded and chaos unfolding, we were forced to stay the night in Copenhagen. That meant missing out on Saturday’s F1 qualifying session, much to everyone’s disappointment.

Saturday brought a new level of logistical gymnastics. Our group was split into smaller teams and routed through a patchwork of European cities. Two of our colleagues had a particularly wild journey—departing early Saturday, they flew from Copenhagen to London, then to Paris, on to Amsterdam, and finally landed in Milan late that evening. They arrived just as the rest of us were enjoying dinner around 21:00.

I was a bit more fortunate. My route took me from Copenhagen to Munich, and then onward to Milan. In true flight simulation spirit, I decided to recreate the first leg (which had actually been by bus) as a flight from the nearest airport to Oslo, just to keep things aviation-authentic.

Despite the logistical mess, the weekend still turned out to be an incredible experience. We made the most of Sunday’s race day and had a blast cheering from the grandstands in Monza. While the journey to get there was anything but smooth, it’s safe to say it made the whole trip even more memorable.
