Tallinn is the capital and most populous city of Estonia. Situated on a bay in north Estonia, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, Tallinn has a population of 437,811 (as of 2022) and administratively lies in the Harju maakond (county). Tallinn is the main financial, industrial, and cultural centre of Estonia.
Tallinn is located 187 km (116 miles) northwest of the country's second largest city Tartu, and only 80 km (50 miles) south of Helsinki, Finland.
Tallinn has a highly diversified economy with particular strengths in information technology, tourism and logistics. Over half of the Estonian GDP is created in Tallinn.
Tallinn receives 4.3 million visitors annually, a figure that has grown steadily over the past decade. The Finns are especially a common sight in Tallinn; on average, about 20,000–40,000 Finnish tourists visit the city between June and October. Most of the visitors come from Europe, though Tallinn has also become increasingly visited by tourists from the Asia-Pacific region.
Tallinn Airport (IATA: TLL, ICAO: EETN) or Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport is the largest airport in Estonia, which serves as a hub for the national airline Nordica, as well as the secondary hub for AirBaltic, cargo airline Airest and LOT Polish Airlines. It was also the home base of the now defunct national airline Estonian Air. Tallinn Airport is open to both domestic and international flights.
The airport is located 2.7 nautical miles (5.0 km; 3.1 miles) southeast of the centre of Tallinn, on the eastern shore of Lake Ülemiste. The airport is served by a single asphalt/concrete runway is large enough to handle wide-bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 747!
