Briefing

Leg 5 — PAKI → PATE Kipnuk → Teller Mission: Head north toward the Seward Peninsula carrying priority cargo and supplies into another road-isolated community.

Low clouds obscure the horizon while wind pushes across the tundra. In Alaska, the difference between a normal workday and an aircraft sitting on the ground can be a few hundred feet of ceiling.

You wait.

Eventually conditions improve.

The engine starts.

The day's work continues.

This is another reality of remote aviation: communities may depend heavily on airplanes, but airplanes remain dependent upon weather.

Aviation connects rural Alaska precisely because Alaska makes every other form of transportation so difficult.

That relationship requires patience.

When Teller finally appears ahead, you realize the people waiting below have been watching the same weather you have.

Nobody asks why you're late.

They're simply glad you're here.

Criteria

Depart from PAKI, fly to and land at PATE (326 NM).

You will be awarded AB 500 for completing this achievement.
