Once you’ve made the rendezvous with your friends and finished gazing at the stars, load up and depart Lake Tekapo for Gorge River Airstrip, located not near, but on, the western shores of the South Island.

The Gorge River flows through a steep-sided, narrow valley before emptying into the Tasman Sea. The airstrip itself is situated directly adjacent to the mouth of the river itself. It’s a great place to take a short halt on the journey to have lunch on the beach, or on the fresh cut grass of the strip itself, giving yourselves time to stretch those legs before continuing on your trip. Just make sure to clean up the area after your lunch. Remember, always leave a place better than you found it!

Be warned, though. This small grass strip is only about 1,200’ long. You’re going to want to fly something appropriate! But who are we to deny any attempts at landing here in something larger? You can certainly try…

Note: This achievement was created in celebration of the Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update XII - New Zealand release, but you may complete the flight in any simulator of your choice!
