Antalya is a Turkish resort city with a yacht-filled old Harbor and beaches flanked by large hotels. It's a gateway to Turkey's southern Mediterranean region, known as the Turquoise Coast for its blue waters. Remnants remain from Antalya's time as a major Roman port. These include Hadrian’s Gate, built to honor the Roman emperor’s visit in 130 A.D and 2nd-century Hidirlik Tower, with harbor views.
The city was known as Attaleia, Attalia, Satalia, and Andalya as it was founded by the king of Pergamum, Attalus II. Later, it came to be known as Antalya.
Antalya is the fifth most populous city in Turkey with over one million people in its urban area.
Within the city of Antalya lies the old preserved city of Kaleiçi (meaning ‘within the castle’). It is a historic place around the Roman harbor having buildings of ancient style dating back to Roman times.
One of Antalya's key tourist attractions in the city is the The Antalya Aquarium is located near Konyaalti Beach and has the world’s biggest tunnel including different species of fish.
There is a 320 miles path between Antalya and Fethiye which came to be known as one of the world’s best long walks. For several years, this path remained a kind of mysterious twisty route that linked the people to their villages.
Blue flag beaches with crystal pure water are one of the most famous interesting facts about Antalya. These beautiful beaches make the city known as the pearl of the Mediterranean coast. People enjoy the sun and the water all year round thanks to the pleasant temperature. There are hundreds of stunning beaches and shores throughout the 640km length of Antalya’s coastline. 11 of the world’s blue flag beaches are in Turkey, which has the third-highest number of them. Antalya, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, is regarded as Turkey’s tourism hub. Each year, tens of thousands of tourists travel to Turkey to experience Antalya.
