The final flight departs Manaus in the soft light of early morning. There are no urgent objectives remaining, no cargo to deliver, and no deadlines to meet. Instead, the aircraft climbs above the forest for one last survey. The researchers sit quietly as endless green stretches beneath them in every direction. The Amazon remains vast, beautiful, and mysterious despite everything they have learned. Dr. Costa eventually breaks the silence with a simple observation. "We spent months studying the forest," she says. "And we still only understand a fraction of it."
