Celebrate the Festival of Lights by embarking on a journey to five regions where Diwali is celebrated with joy, culture, and tradition. Diwali, known as Deepavali in some parts of the world, is a Hindu festival symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It spans five days of celebration with vibrant customs, including lighting oil lamps (diyas), offering prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, and sharing sweets and gifts with loved ones.
In this achievement, you’ll visit five culturally significant countries—each with their own unique way of celebrating Diwali. Starting in India, the heart and origin of Diwali, where millions of homes light up with diyas and fireworks fill the sky. From there, fly to Nepal, where Diwali is celebrated as Tihar, a five-day festival that honours not only humans but animals like cows, dogs, and crows, all seen as sacred beings.
Next, head to Sri Lanka, where Diwali is deeply connected with the Tamil Hindu community. While it's more regionally concentrated in the northern and eastern provinces, it holds a strong cultural importance, symbolizing hope and renewal. In Mauritius, experience Diwali as a national holiday, where Hindu communities come together with lights and prayers in celebration of prosperity and unity. Finally, make your way to Fiji, where the large Indo-Fijian population celebrates Diwali with the same vibrant customs as India, bringing light and joy to the South Pacific.
Throughout this journey, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Diwali’s cultural impact across diverse regions, each infusing their own unique traditions into the celebration. Fly to these destinations, experience the beauty of this ancient festival, and enjoy the warmth and light that Diwali brings to communities around the world.
