| Remarks: | Flight 18 of the UK coastal tour - the one over the Lakes. We left Barrow and flew east over Morecambe Bay first - I missed seeing this a few days ago due to weather. I must say I was disappointed as there was an aircraft on the ground at Barrow and another one on approach - but neither of the sods where communicating either via text or speech - what's the point of Vatsim if you aren't going to take part? Killjoys. Oh well I had fun - after turning north towards Sellafield (we where careful to avoid the nuclear danger zone) - we when turned east into the Lakes following the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. I perhaps shouldn't have been as low as I was but I was hilarious fun being lowing than the mountains. We skipped over the Hardknot Pass then flew south down Lake Windemere, then turned north back up Coniston Water. We ambled past Ambleside carrying on up north admiring Helvellyn on the way remembering the day I ruined my knee on the descent... ouch. Reaching Thirlemere we turned south again over Derwent Water - west past Fleetwith pike giving the daredevils on the Via Ferrata something to look at - before finally turning north over Buttermere leaving the Lakes behind us. With my basic service in hand I changed frequencies to land at Carlisle following a standard overhead join. |
