World Update XII - New Zealand is here, and with it comes a few bespoke airports located on New Zealand’s North Island. This tour of the included bespoke airports will see you traveling from Gisborne to Rotorua, and finally to Whangarei.
Gisborne is situated on the eastern coast of the North Island and is home to about 36,000 people. The city is known for its beautiful coastline, sunny climate, and thriving arts scene. It is particularly known for its wine production, with several nearby vineyards and wineries offering tastings and tours to visitors. Just don’t partake in this activity too much as you will soon be flying to Rotorua!
Rotorua is located in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island. Among other things, it is known for its geothermal activity, including mud pools, hot springs, and geysers, one of which can reach heights of up to 100 feet (30 meters)!
Finally you will visit Whangarei, located north-northwest of Auckland. It’s known for its plentiful opportunities to experience the outdoors in various ways, including kayaking, fishing and hiking. The city is surrounded by beautiful forests, mountains and rivers. The airport here is located in the center of a small peninsula, and is surrounded by homes on all sides. This is important to remember as the main runway is only about 3,600 feet in length. You certainly don’t want to overrun it here! On your way here, you may even have a chance at spotting Hobbiton, the famed home of the hobbits from the Lord of the Rings series!
