Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a country located in the western Pacific Ocean and is known for its diverse culture and stunning natural beauty, including rugged terrain, rainforests, and coral reefs. Aviation plays a critical role in PNG, as the country's challenging geography and limited road infrastructure make air travel the primary mode of transportation for many people and goods.

PNG has a relatively large number of airports for its size, with over 560 airstrips and airports across the country. Many of these are small, remote airports that are crucial for connecting rural communities to the rest of the country. In fact, PNG has one of the highest per capita rates of airstrips in the world.

However, the rugged terrain and challenging weather conditions in PNG also make aviation in the country one of the most dangerous in the world. The mountainous terrain, frequent fog, and unpredictable weather can make flying hazardous, and many of the smaller airports and airstrips have limited facilities and no radar, making navigation and communication difficult.

Despite these challenges, aviation is an essential part of life in PNG, with many remote communities relying on air transport for access to healthcare, education, and other essential services. The government and aviation industry are working together to improve safety and infrastructure, but there is still much work to be done to ensure safe and reliable air travel in PNG.
