Smoke and sulfur smell during a flight is not exactly reassuring. Especially when 4 of your engines will flame out, and cockpit visibility is largely terrible. However, Voyager pilots enjoy mild challenges. On 24 June 1982, they successfully diverted an aircraft in such conditions (due to volcano ash) to Jakarta.
This voyager flight is often mischaracterized as “British Airways Flight 009” by mainstream media. Relive portions of this flight. Turn on the no-smoking light.
