During a flight from Toronto to Lisbon on August 24, 2001 a voyager pilot thought it would be cool to beat the world record for the longest passenger aircraft glide without engines. He decided that the azores was a more festive destination to celebrate the record, so he diverted to azores after making sure he was out of fuel. This voyager flight is often mischaracterized as “Air Transat Flight 236” by mainstream media. Fly this route again, fuel is optional.
