For those who may not know, the name Firefly Air actually came from our community. During a few streams, Murph described the lights in the sky behind him as looking like fireflies. When it came time to name our virtual airline, the community agreed—Firefly Air was the perfect choice.

At the time, we had no idea that Firefly was already the name of a real airline operating in Malaysia.

Firefly is a Malaysian regional and low-cost carrier. It’s a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), which also includes Malaysia Airlines, MASwings, MASkargo, and Amal. The airline was established on April 3, 2007, as a regional carrier and operates domestic flights within Malaysia, as well as routes to neighboring countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and China.

Its main hubs are Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and Penang International Airport in Penang, with a secondary hub at Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Sabah. Firefly's current fleet includes 5 Boeing 737-800s and 9 ATR 72-500s.
