We continue our Monday Night Series. This week we visit Bosnia and Herzegovina to follow the rail line from Sarajevo to Mostar. Starting off at LQSA we follow the line through some gorgeous mountains, valleys and rivers down to LQMO for a full stop landing.
Sarajevo International Airport (ICAO: LQSA) , also known as Butmir Airport, is the main international airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located 3.3 NM (6.1 km; 3.8 mi) southwest of the Sarajevo railway station[1] and some 6.5 NM (12.0 km; 7.5 mi) west of downtown Sarajevo in the Ilidža municipality, suburb of Butmir. In 2019, 1,143,680 passengers travelled through the airport, compared to 323,499 in 2001.
Mostar Airport (ICAO:LQMO) was opened for civilian air traffic in 1965 for domestic flights. Prior to 1965, Mostar was a local airport with a large concrete runway used by aircraft manufacturer SOKO for testing and delivering military aircraft, and sometimes by passenger aircraft.Currently, the airport primarily serves for pilgrimages to nearby Medjugorje. In 2012, the airport had a twofold increase in traffic, making it the second-busiest in Bosnia and Herzegovina after Sarajevo airport.
