Advanced IFR Pilot Rating (AIPR) Achievement

Introduction:

This achievement will test our landing skills in an airliner. We will not encounter “regular” ILS/GLS or RNP approaches here. To complete the achievement, all four flights must be completed. Takeoff can be done from any runway, but landing and approach procedures must be flown according to the following briefing and access to charts are necessary to fly these approaches safely. All four flights must be flown according to normal IFR procedures and maximum landing rate will be set to -600 fpm (more than that would also likely be accepted if it’s not a crash). Aircrafts allowed to use for this achievement are: • Asobo Airbus A320 • FBW Airbus A320 • Fenix Airbus A320 • Just Flight BAE146 (any variant) • PMDG Boeing 737-700 (any variant) • Bredok 3D 737 MAX • Aerosoft CRJ 550/700/900/1000 • Embraer 170/175 and 190/195

This achievement/event opens on FSHub (Firefly Air) Friday June 24th 18:00 zulu and will stay open for a couple of weeks after the group flight. Both PC and Xbox users are more than welcome to join. Voice chat will be on the “Two Tone Murphy” discord under #MSFS-Open (and/or other available chat rooms if needed). I will be sharing my screen and helping those who are not so familiar with this type of flying. Everyone is welcome to share their screens, and those with IFR experience are encouraged to help those in need of help and advice. This event will not be in a stream “format”, just open voice chat for anyone who wish to join. Traffic separation will be important. After first plane have taken off, next plane should wait at least two minutes before taking off, next one two minutes after and so on. Live briefing and preparation will start on discord voice channel at 18:00 zulu and first takeoff 30 to 60 minutes after that. We will start with flight 1 and see if we’re able to do them all. The approach in flight 4 is very hard, so we might do this flight another night, but everyone will be able to fly this achievement solo if desired.

Flight 1: ENTO – ENML This is an offset localizer approach where the last 2,3 miles must be flown without autopilot. Setting up fixes for additional guidance is a smart tip on these types of approaches. • Must land on runway 25 • Must follow the LOC Z Rwy 25 approach • Not exceed a landing rate of -600 fpm • A maximum of 3 “go-arounds” are of course allowed, but after that you must divert to the alternate airport (given by Simbrief). This will then result in flight accepted, and bring you one step closer to completing the achievement

Flight 2: EGJJ – EGLC This will be an ILS approach with a twist. The glide path for both runways at London City is only 4,8 nm long and starts at 3000 ft AGL, which makes the glide slope extremely steep at 5,5 degrees (“normal” is 3,0 degrees). It is not recommended to use the 737 or A320 for this flight. The BAE146 is ideal for these types of steep approaches. If you do not have the BAE146 you are more than welcome to try the 737 or A320. • Either runway 09 or 27 can be used • Must do an ILS approach • Not exceed a landing rate of -600 fpm • Additional approved aircraft to fly this flight: o Asobo / WorkingTitle Cessna Citation CJ4 o Asobo Cessna Citation Longitude o Anyone from this list if some of them exists in the MSFS universe https://privatejetcentre.londoncityairport.com/services/approved-aircraft • A maximum of 3 “go-arounds” are of course allowed, but after that you must divert to the alternate airport (given by Simbrief). Flight 3: LIPZ – LDSP This is a mix of a RNAV and visual approach. RNAV will be flown to a certain point, then the rest must be flown manually. As in flight 1, setting up fixes for this approach is also very helpful. • Must land on runway 23 • Must follow the RNAV VISUAL Rwy 23 approach • Not exceed a landing rate of -600 fpm • A maximum of 3 “go-arounds” are of course allowed, but after that you must divert to the alternate airport (given by Simbrief). This will then result in flight accepted, and bring you one step closer to completing the achievement

Flight 4: EDDB – LOWI This is by far the hardest approach in this event. This is the infamous Innsbruck “Circle-To-Land” approach. Towering mountains and terrain all around this airport, an offset localizer, a manual glide slope angel of 3,77 degrees and a short runway makes this a perfect final approach for this achievement. • Must do an approach from the east / north-east • Must land on runway 08 • Must follow the “Special Circling Procedures” • Not exceed a landing rate of -600 fpm • A maximum of 3 “go-arounds” are of course allowed, but after that you must divert to the alternate airport (given by Simbrief). This will then result in flight accepted, and award you the “Advanced IFR Pilot Rating” achievement
